Salado Eagles varsity soccer team beat the 6A Killeen Kangaroos 1-0 at Leo Buckley Stadium on Jan. 13, dropping their record to 2-3 overall.
Armando Castillo, outside midfielder scored the only goal for Salado on an assist from Cameron Markham, defender. Luis Pena was goalkeeper nad Sterling Curnutt had and outstanding game at forward.
“The guys worked hard to secure the win over Killeen,” Coach Michael Goos said. “Killeen High School has a good program with quick talented players.”
“This is a big win for the boys program after graduating so many seniors last year.,” he added. “These new players are ready to carry on the tradition.”
The boys are 2-3 prior to a road game against China Spring earlier this week. The game was played after press deadline for this edition.
JV Eagles
Salado JV boys soccer teams played the Harker Heights 7v& tournament Jan. 15-17 at Leo Buckley Stadium in Killeen.
The JV A team won four games and lost three in this tournament, beating Killeen, Harker Heights, Shoemaker and Ellison and losing to Copperas Cove, Temple and Leander Rouse. The JV B team won five games and tied two games, beating Ellison, Copperas Cove, Shoemaker, Temple, Leander Rouse and tying Killeen and Harker Heights. The A team took fourth place in their bracket out of eight teams while the B team took second out of eight teams.
Playing on shortened fields, Salado JV A scored a total of 26 goals and allowed a total of 22 goals during the tournament. Their largest loss was 5-2 loss to Copperas Cove and their largest victory was a 6-2 victory over Shoemaker.
The Salado B team scored a total of 28 goals and only allowed 16 goals against them. Their largest victory was a 6-1 victory versus Ellison.

Dalton Menix and Feerman Vitolas played keeper while Jeremiah Del Rio, Jake Walrath, Cooper Womack, Kirk Pruitt and Nolan Maldonado provided staunch defense.
Thus far this season, the Salado JV boys have played a total of 20 games in scrimmages, regulation or in tournaments and have accumulated the following record of 12 wins, 5 losses and 3 ties.
