Jacob Wilk’s walk-off single to deep left gave the Salado Eagles a 10th-inning 1-0 win over the Cuero Gobblers last night.
The Eagles continue the best-of-three series at New Braunfels Canyon High at 1 p.m. today with a third game 30 minutes after game two, if necesssary.
Chase Basham hit a hard grounder to second base and reached on an error by Garrett Veit. He went to second on a passed ball to Jacob Wilk, who drove the next pitch to left field to plate Basham.
Cody Wolf went nine innings for Salado, facing 32 batters and striking out 13 of them. Wolf gave up two hits and walked two batters.
Basham got the win, pitching the final inning in relief, striking out two batters and giving up no hits.
Veit gave up five hits in his seven innings for the Gobblers. He struck out five and walked one.
Pitching in relief, Joey Baker gave up one hit, walked two and struck out two over the two innings that he pitched.
Cuero put runners in scoring position twice during regulation play, once when Wolf walked a batter and then hit another and later in the fourth when Baker rocked a double to deep left field.
Salado put a runner on third in the first and eighth innings, but could not convert either opportunity.
Wilk led Salado in batting with two singles and a run batted in. Also getting hits for the Eagles were Drew Dobbins, Phillip Ellis and Basham all with singles and Preston Payne with a double.
