Discover and learn how to celebrate Earth Day every day at Pace Park’s April 23 Earth Day Celebration.
The event will run from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and will feature environmental experts from all over the central Texas region. Hourly live demonstrations for both adults and children will provide information on outdoor activities for all.
Scheduled demonstrations include; Bats are Beneficial, Kidding Around with Goats, The Joys of Heirloom Chickens, The Beautiful World of Bees, and a Salado Creek Walk and Talk. In addition to the Live Demonstrations and Guest Environmental Speakers, there will be live animals, interactive exhibits, hands-on demonstrations, educational materials, and food trucks.
Volunteers will also be passing out free trash bags at the pavilion for those who wish to contribute to Salado’s, “Don’t Mess with Texas – Trash Off” event, by picking up litter during their hikes and in their neighborhoods.
All events are free of charge with most of the activities taking place in the park’s pavilion area.
In the spring of 1970, Senator Gaylord Nelson created Earth Day as a way to bring the environment into the national dialogue. In its first year, 20 million Americans celebrated Earth Day. Nearly 50 years later, Americans have conquered many of the environmental and public health challenges we’ve faced: acid rain, leaded gasoline, air pollution, and more.
“This Earth Day,” Susan Terry said, “Salado will celebrate our successes while we continue to protect our natural resources!”
