Dr. Monte Monroe is dedicated to the dissemination and preservation of Texas history with an interest so broad that he uses the word “eclectic” to characterizes it. In fact, few Texans are more qualified for speaking about Texas history than he. Over his long career — including his current positions as a member of the faculty at Texas Tech, the Archivist of the Southwest Collection and as our Texas State Historian — Monroe has amassed a long list of credentials, including writing credits, a host of professional memberships, and numerous other honors. Naturally, his services as a speaker are in high demand. Salado is fortunate to be on this esteemed speaker’s agenda with a scheduled visit in early November.
The Salado Historical Society is pleased to announce that Dr. Monte Monroe will speak at our upcoming annual chili supper. This year’s function is scheduled for November 7, at the Church of Christ fellowship hall and will begin at 5:00. This is generally a well-attended event due to the popularity of Hulda Horton’s delicious chili but you can add this distinguished guest as another reason to attend.
We ask that other attendees bring a salad or dessert. Members and guests are welcome.
