Everly Estes Broadway
Everly Estes Broadway, age 54, died at July 18, 2013 at home with her family after 15 months of treatment for cancer.
She was born in 1958 in Fort Worth to Herbert and Marie Estes, growing up in grew up in Denverand Houston, graduating from J. Frank Dobie High School in 1976. She studied math education at Baylor University.
She met Mikael Broadway and they were married soon after they graduated in 1980.
She earned a masters degree in math education from the University of Texas in Austin. After moving to North Carolina her teaching career took off. She received a Presidential Award for teaching, became a district mathematics director for Durham Public Schools, and was named an Outstanding Young Alumna of Baylor University. Broadway acquired a multi-million dollar National Science Foundation grant for curriculum reform, earned a doctorate from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, and became state director for mathematics at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
In 2009 she moved to Texas to become the director of mathematics curriculum for the Texas Education Agency.
Broadway was the mother of three children, David, Naomi, and Lydia.
She has served in churches in many capacities, most recently as a Sunday School teacher, prayer team member, missionary, and vision team member at Mt. Level Missionary Baptist Church in Durham.
She is survived by her husband Mike Broadway; her children David, Naomi and Lydia; her parents; her brother Eric E. Estes and her sister Ruth E. Estes; her father-in-law, W. D. Broadway and wife Hugh Delle, of Salado, and Mike’s sister Jerene.
Services for Broadway will be 10 a.m. July 27 at the First Baptist Church on Main Street in Salado with a visitation bat 9 a.m.
A celebration of Everly’s life will be 6-8 p.m. July 26 at Broecker Funeral Home, Salado.
In lieu of flowers, make donations in honor of Everly to either of the following: to fund student scholarships for the Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America 300 Hawthorne Lane, Suite 205, Charlotte, NC 28204-2434; or to assist young people attending college through the Albert E. Love Scholarship Fund Mt. Level Missionary Baptist Church, 316 Hebron Road, Durham, North Carolina 27704.
Services are in the care of Broecker Funeral Home, Salado.
