Salado Museum and College Park will host Genealogy Day in Salado, a video conference sponsored by the Salado Public Library, Friday, October 18, starting at 10:00am in the Lucile A. Robertson Center at 423 South Main. Admission for the day-long event is free with no pre-registration required.
“Each year the Waco Public Library organizes this Genealogy Day Conference in conjunction with the Central Texas Genealogical Society and the Texas State Genealogical Society (TSGS),” says Salado Library Assistant Director Julie Hoy. “The streamed program includes a series of pre-recorded videos presented by genealogy professionals and provides access to these videos to libraries across Texas at no charge on one day only.”
This year’s program consists of two morning sessions and three afternoon sessions. Morning topics are: Getting Started with Your Genealogy with Laura Douglas, Head of Special Collections, Denton Public Library; and Introducing the Retro Tech Lab: Digitally Preserving Family History with Mark Dellenbaugh, Genealogy and Local History Librarian, Arlington Public Library.
The program’s afternoon sessions are: So You Discovered You Have a Colonial Ancestor. Now What? with Craig R. Scott, President and CEO, Heritage Books, Inc.; I’ve Found My Irish Immigrant Ancestor. Now What? with Claire Bradley, Director of Irish Studies of the International Institute of Genealogical Studies; and Writing Your Family Story: and Learning to Assess and Compile Your Research with Emily Coffman Richardson, Genealogist, KinSearchers, Director-at-Large, TSGS.
“Attendees are welcome to stay for the entire day’s program or to select individual presentations of their choice,” says Hoy. “Everyone is welcome to join us at the Museum for this once-a-year opportunity to learn about the pursuit of genealogy.”
