Staff Sgt. Guadalupe Maldonado Jr.
FORT HOOD, Texas — Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died Feb. 1 2014 from a terminal illness in San Benito, Texas.
Staff Sgt. Guadalupe Maldonado Jr., 36, whose home of record is listed as San Benito, entered active duty service in May 2003 as an infantryman. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, since July 2012.
Maldonado deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from October 2003 to July 2004, October 2006 to January 2008 and January 2009 to December 2009.
Maldonado’s awards and decorations include five Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medal, four Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medals with three Campaign Stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, three Overseas Service Ribbons, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge.
