Graveside services for Jamie Phipps Bonner, Jr., of Lufkin and formerly of Salado, were held July 21, 2014 in the Salado Cemetery with Bro. Billy Johnson officiating.
Bonner was born October 17, 1944 in Norfork, Virginia, the son of the late Peggy Joyce (Taylor) and Jamie P. Bonner, Sr. He passed away July 17, 2014 at the age of 69.
He was a graduate of Temple High School and teammate on the Wildcat Basketball Team that won a State Championship. He went on to attend Sam Houston State University, then received his Master’s Degree from Baylor University. He married Phyllis Marcelle Johnson on April 12, 1974, and was blessed with children.Jamie spent his early years owning and operating TemBel Nursery and A-1 Fence. He was a professor at University of Mary Hardin Baylor and Temple College. He could often be found in the stands of any Salado sporting event with a smile on his face enjoying the game played in front of him. He was also a member of the Salado Methodist Church, Salado Masonic Lodge and Lions Club for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Phyllis; daughters, Marci Brentham and Jackie Maddux; brother-in-law, Freddy Johnson and five grandchildren.
