John Stephen Conners Sr., age 91 of Temple, died Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Salado Civic Center Gazebo in Salado.
John was born July 29, 1922 in Lexa, Arkansas, to John Michael Conners and Susan Elizabeth Armstrong Conners. He was preceded in death by his sisters; Frances Conners Johnston, Patricia Conners Hetzler and Mary Susan Conners Prude.
He attended elementary and secondary school in Memphis, Tennessee, graduating from Catholic High School on May 31, 1940, at Immaculate Conception Church. He was a veteran of World War II serving honorably in the U.S. Army with the 2nd Infantry Division in Rhineland, Central Europe.
John’s early career was with W.T. Grant Store Company; after their closing he owned and operated Hallmark Card Stores in Williamsburg, Kentucky, and Springfield, Tennessee. Upon retirement he moved to Texas, living first in Lubbock then settling in Temple. He continued to work during retirement, until his death, as a salesman for Prellop Fine Art Gallery in Salado, Texas.
He is survived by his children: John S. Conners Jr., Austin, Texas; Pamela J. Bush and husband Gary, Lampe, MO; Judith A. Rasmussen and husband Merle, Blue Springs, MO; and John Michael Conners, Brownwood, TX; and eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews who will all greatly miss him.
