Kathleen Ranson

M. Kathleen Ranson, 94, a retired college professor, died January 21, 2010 at the William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans’ Home in Temple.

    A native of Farmville, Virginia, she was born August 3, 1915, a daughter of the late Lee Edward and Nannie Bowman Ranson.  She received her Bachelor’s degree from Longwood University in Virginia; her M.Ed degree from Vanderbilt in Tennessee and her Doctorate degree from the University of Missouri.
    She published numerous articles, served on national boards, received multiple awards and traveled the world.  She taught thousands of students and established scholarships at three different universities in support of educational enhancements for children and their teachers.  She was a stellar student/athlete in high school and college, excelling in softball, tennis, basketball, field hockey and swimming.
    Ms. Ranson took a hiatus from her personal educational pursuits to serve her country after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.  She served as Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II.
    She was preceded in death by all six of her brothers and sisters, including Louise Ranson Butler (wife of William Butler) of Salado, TX and is survived by her nephew, Donny Sequin and his daughter, Natalie Sequin, also of Salado, TX.
     A private graveside service with military honors was held at the Texas State Veterans’ Cemetery in Killeen.
