Kites for Kids postponed due to possible severe weather
Event rescheduled for March 22 at Peaceable Kingdom
Variety’s Peaceable Kingdom Retreat for Children announced today that it will postpone the 2nd Annual Kites for Kids Day until Saturday, March 22, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The event was originally planned for tomorrow. The nonprofit group cites the impending severe weather as cause for the rescheduling.
“We want to ensure the safety of all our guests,” commented Leslie Gilmore, executive director of Variety’s Peaceable Kingdom. “And, Kites for Kids Day will be much more fun if we don’t have to play the role of Benjamin Franklin!”
The event will be free and open to the public. The same activities are still planned: kite flying, kite contests and kite crafts. Visitors can also enjoy parachute games, frisbee toss, art, hiking, horseshoes, miniature golf, arcade games, low-ropes course, indian camp, historic log cabin, sport court, dinosaur-dig, mini-wall climb and more.
The purpose of the event is for the public to enjoy all the activities at Variety’s Peaceable Kingdom that are usually reserved for school groups, civic clubs, businesses and summer campers. Peaceable Kingdom is a program of Variety, The Children’s Charity of Texas with a mission of empowering children with special needs.
Kites for Kids Day will be held at Variety’s Peaceable Kingdom Retreat for Children at 19051 FM 2484, Killeen. From I-35, exit FM2484 and go west ~15 miles. Entrance is on left, just after Lampasas River.
Variety’s Peaceable Kingdom Retreat for Children served nearly 4,000 children and their families last year. The retreat is located on 120 acres along the Lampasas River in the hill county near Killeen, Texas, and offers environmental education field trips, weekend retreats and summer camps.
