Salado Lady Eagles won their first playoff game in the history of the soccer program and did it in dominating fashion with a 9-0 win over LaGrange March 27. The girls will play Wimberley (Overall 14-7-1, District 7-4-1) at Fredericksburg High School 6 p.m. April 2.
Taylor Valeriano led the squad, scoring a hat trick of three goals for the Lady Eagles. Forward Sara Wilkerson scored two goals. Forward Gema Vitolas had a goal and two assists. Also scoring goals for Salado were Outside Midfielder Rebecca Gonzalez, Midfielder Katey Ewton, and Forward Reagan Morreale. Contributing assists were Outside Midfielders Jessica Ringstaff and Ashlen LaCanne and Midfielder China Saxton.
“This was a fantastic start to the playoffs,” Coach Karen Ewton said, “but we have a lot of work to accomplish before we meet Wimberley in the next round.”
“The girls are focused on making this a season to remember,” she added, “after earning their first playoff win in program history.
Wimberley was the second place team in District 28AAAA and had a bye week the first round.
Salado is 22-1 overall and 7-1 in district.
District 25AAAA took three of the four bi-district playoff games from District 26AAAA. In addition to Salado’s crushing win over LaGrange, second place Lampasas shut out third place Smithville 4-0, third place Liberty Hill beat runnerup Taylor 8-1. Fourth place Gateway lost to 26AAAA Champion Giddings 8-0.
