The top-ranked Salado Lady Eagles had to fend off a ferocious Lampasas Lady Badger team, taking the game to penalty kicks Feb. 17 to preserve their perfect record with a 2-1 win at home.
“I always love playing Lampasas,” Kristin Crouch said, “they are the most competitive team we play in our district and I always know we will have an intense game against them when we play them…and they didn’t let us down last Tuesday. We went into overtime and penalty kicks.”
Goalkeeper Sam Isbell blocked three penalty kicks in the shoot out, after the teams were tied at the end of regulation and played through two 10-minute overtime periods.
At her defensive midfielder position Crouch helped lead the defense while midfielder China Saxton, Ashlen LaCanne and Reagan Morreale all scored penalty kicks in the shoot out. Saxton scored a penalty kick in regulation after Katey Ewton was knocked down in the box.Annie Ewton was also highlighted for her play in the game at the forward position.

Salado Lady Eagles handled the Jarrell Lady Cougars on the road 4-1 for the third win in district play, extending their perfect season to 16-0 and 3-0 in district play.
Scoring goals for Salado were outside midfielders Annie Ewton and Dani Gantenbein and defenders Stephanie Fleagle and Morgan Bird.
Assists came from Saxton at attacking midfielder with two, Crouch at forward and Tyler Pierce at defender.
The girls were slated to play Liberty Hill on Feb. 24 (after presstime) and Gateway Prep on Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. at home.
