Jenna Calder’s walk-off single to right lifted the Salado Lady Eagles over the Lampasas Lady Badgers 9-8 in the bottom of the 11th inning April 12.
Calder’s shot to right brought home Madeline Murray, who hit a one-out double to center. Murray got to third due to an error by the centerfielder before scoring the winning run. Salado took an early lead in the game with a run in the bottom of the first and two in the fourth.
Meagan Hill led off the bottom of the first with a single and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Payton Dreitz. A passed ball let her go to third and she scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Malory Schattle.
Murray scored in the fourth after hitting a single She got to third on a double by Bailey Tindell and scored on a single by Stephanie Mancilla. Dreitz singled, scoring Tindell.
Lampasas took the lead in the sixth, scoring five runs by taking advantage of three errors and two batters being hit by the pitcher and another walked. They only had one hit in the frame, a single by Blake Brooresan to score a runner.
Salado answered with five runs in the sixth. Tindell hit a double to center and Mancilla bunted to put runners at the corner. Dreitz singled to plate Tindell and a defensive interference call against Lampasas pushed Mancilla across homeplate. Malory Schattle homered over the centerfield fence to score Dreitz. Rebecca Dockray singled, advancing on a single by Lindy Martin and a fly-out to right by Murray. She scored on an error by the second baseman before the third out was recorded.
The Lady Badgers scored three runs with two outs in the seventh to send the game into extra innings. Kyndal Moyer reached on a fielder’s choice that put Monica Garcia out at second for the second out of the frame. Brookresan walked and an error to Sloan Johnson loaded the bases. Kloe Corbin hit a double to deep right to bring all three runners home tying the game at 8-8.
The Lady Eagles were able to get out of a jam in the 10th inning when Lampasas loaded the bases with two outs. In the 11th, the Lady Bagers had a runner in scoring position but she was called out for leaving base before the pitch to end the threat.
