Salado Lady Eagles beat Gatesville in season opener
Salado came-from-behind in the fourth quarter, outscoring Gatesville 12-5 for the win. The girls led 18-12 after the first and 29-26 at the half. Gatesville outscored Salado 10-6 in the third to take a one-point lead.
Salado shot 14-of-42 from the field, including 7-of-23 2-pointers and 7-of-19 3-pointers. Gatesville shot 14-of-48 from the field, including 10-of-33 2-pointers and four-of-15 3-pointers. Salado hit 12-of-18 free throws while Gatesville made nine-of-14.
Salado out-rebounded Gatesville 28 to 21. The Lady Eagles turned the ball over 17 times, while Gatesville turned it over 13 times. Gatesville committed 17 fouls while Salado committed 11.
Kaia Philen led the girls with 19 points. She shot five-of-10 from the field, but made three-of-five outside the arc. She also shot six-of-eight free throws. Philen had seven rebounds, an assist and blocked a shot.
Amanda Cantu followed with 7 points. She was three-of-seven from the field. Cantu grabbed eight rebounds and two steals, made an assist and blocked a shot.
Reese Preston scored 6 points, hitting two-of-four from beyond the arc. She also had a rebound.
Katie Law scored 5 points, hitting both her shots from the field and her free throw try.
