After leading by seven points in the first quarter, Salado Lady Eagles held on to beat Marble Falls in the basketball season opener at home 40-37.
The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 13-6 lead in the first quarter. Sarah Kelarek scored four of her game-leading 15 points in the first quarter. Kelarek was perfect at the free throw line with eight points coming from fouls.
The Lady Eagles led 27-19 at the half before they were outscored 11-5 in the third quarter.
Kelarek and Brianna Washington hit three pointers to lead Salado in the fourth quarter. Washington had six points in the game.
Kerrigan Hearne followed with five points, including a three-pointer. Payton Dreitz had four points, Taylor Lowrance and Danielle McDaniel, three points each and Kierstan Osborn and Gema Vitolas, two points each.

The Marble Falls JV girls held Salado to just two points in the first quarter and five points in the first half to develop an insurmountable lead in the Lady Eagles’ basketball season home opener Nov. 10. Marble Falls went on to win 27-20, despite being outscored in the second half by Salado.
Lexie Lima hit two three-pointers for the Lady Eagles to score the only points for Salado in the fourth quarter. She led the team with nine points total.
Also scoring for Salado were Joy Johnson, four points, Kate Kyburz, three points and Corban Mescher and Melissa McCulloch, two points each.
