Jasey Goings hit a three-pointer with less than five seconds left in the first half to put the Salado Lady Eagles up 27-24, a lead the girls never relinquished in their Region IV semifinal game tonight against West Oso. The Lady Eagles outscored West Oso 10-4 in the third and held on for the 46-37 win.
Salado will face Fredericksburg tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. to see which team will play in Austin in the State Tournament.
Kaia Philen scored the first points in the game, and, fittingly, the last point as well on a free throw with about 10 seconds left. She led the Lady Eagles with 16 points, shooting 5-of-9 from the field and 6-of-12 at the free throw line. She also had seven rebounds for the girls.
Coming off the bench early in the first when Abby Rembert hurt her ankle, Reese Preston hit two three-pointers to help the girls take a 12-10 lead in the first. She scored 9 points in the game, all from beyond the arc. Preston also had two rebounds and two deflections.
Lorena Perez also had 9 points in the game. She grabbed 18 rebounds and made two steals and one block.
Katie Law led the girls in rebounds with 20, scoring 2 points.
Also scoring for the Lady Eagles were Priscilla Torczynski, 4 points, Kenslee Konarik and Goings, 3 points each.
