Salado Lady Eagles continue to hold on to the top spot in the 4A soccer poll with convincing wins over district opponents last week.

Gateway Prep 0
Salado Lady Eagles shut out Gateway Prep 6-0 in a home match Feb. 19 to improve to 15-1 and 7-0 in district.
Defensive midfielder Tyler Pierce led the team with two goals. Ashlen LaCanne, attacking midfielder scored a goal, as did forward Annie Ewton, forward Riley Stewart and defender Reagan Morreale, whose goal came on a penalty kick.
Forward China Saxton had two assists and defender Morgan Bird had an assist.
“From the first whistle, we made sure we worked as a team for all 80 minutes,” Bird said. “We connected very well with one another. All of the girls communicated well and played with passion and heart. All in all, it was a great team win.”
The Lady Eagles will play Liberty Hill on the road Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m.

Lampasas 1
The Salado Lady Eagles traveled to Lampasas to beat the Lady Badgers 6-1 on Feb. 16 to improve to 14-1 and 6-0 in district.
Ashlen LaCanne led the team from her attacking midfielder position with three goals in the match. Defender Carly Nichols, Outside Midfielder Kristin Crouch and Outside Midfielder Brileigh Cole each scored a goal for Salado.
Forward Sara Wilkerson had two assists and Forward Taylor Schoenrock had one assist.
“My teammates and I worked the ball around great the whole game,” LaCanne said. “Our passes and shots were right where they needed to be. I feel like we continue to grow as a team and are gaining momentum as we begin the second half of district play.”
JV Lady Eagles 0
Burnet 5
The JV Burnet Lady Bulldogs shut out the Salado Lady Eagles at home 5-0 on Feb. 19. The loss drops Salado to 4-3-1 and 2-3-1 in district.
“This was a tough loss to a well-coached team,” Coach Karen Ewton said. “This is the first year for Burnet to have soccer, and we have gotten to play some of the most talented players from that school. Our girls worked very hard, and they had to step up to play a tough game.”
Players of the game were Defender Hayley Vandeplas, outside midfielder Abby Molyneaux, outside midfielder Caitlyn Foster and midfielder Erin McBryde.

Lampasas 1
The Salado JV Lady Eagles soccer team took home a 1-0 loss from their road match against the Lampasas Lady Badgers Feb. 16.
Midfielder Perla Perez, outside midfielder Erin McBryde and outside midfielder Abby Molyneaux were the outstanding players of the game for Salado.
Considering we were missing several players, the girls came together and played really hard.,” Coach Karen Ewton said. “They moved the ball around well, and had several chances to score.”
