Salado Lady Eagles gave up two runs late in the game of both of their losses to the Sweeny Lady Bulldogs, ending their season in the Area playoff May 6-7.
In the top of the seventh on May 7, Maddie Stewart took advantage of a throwing error by Salado’s third baseman to reach second with no outs. She scored on a shot to left by Brianna Amey who went to second on the throw to home.
A double by Katy Schaefer put Amey across the plate for the go-ahead run After striking out Cassidy Myers, Salado pitcher Meagan Hill walked the next batter to put runners on first and second. She forced pop flies to Rebecca Dockray and Stephanie Mancilla to get out of the inning.
Sweeny pitcher Lauren Myers then threw three straight strikeouts to secure the win. Myers threw 10 strikeouts in the game. She gave up hits to Malory Schattle, Jenna Calder (a double) and bunts by Abby James and Hill.
Hill struck out seven batters and gave up six hits in her final appearance on the mound for Salado.
Salado’s only run in the game came in the fourth. Schattle singled, Calder was hit by a pitch and Lindy Martin walked to load the bases. James laid down a bunt with two outs in the inning for Schattle to score on a squeeze play.

Sweeny scored two runs in the sixth inning and held the Lady Eagles scoreless in the top of the seventh to take the first game of the best-of-three series May 6, winning 4-3 at Weimer field.
Sweeny led briefly scoring a run in the fourth. Alllie Robertson singled and went to second on an error by the Salado centerfielder. Courtesy runner Samantha Mansfield scored on a single to center by Kristen Hansen for a 1-0.
The Lady Eagles eclipsed the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth. Jenna Calder walked and Lindy Martin singled. Both runners scored on a double by Bailey Tindell to give Salado a 2-1 lead.
Sweeny tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. Katy Schaefer reached on an error by the third baseman. She scored on a double by Brenna Bailey.
Malory Schattle hit a solo homer in the top of the sixth to give Salado a 3-2 lead.
Sweeny answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Lauren Myers walked and Taylor Beal doubled to put runners at second and third. Myers scored and Beal went to third on a ground-out to short by Maddie Stewart. Beal scored on a passed ball before pitcher Meagan Hill could get out of the inning.
Hill struck out 10 batters, gave up seven hits and two earned runs in the mound appearance.
Myers struuck out seven batters and gave up seven hits and three earned runs in her win on the mound.
