Salado Lady Eagles started their softball season with a 4-1 win over Lorena Feb. 17.
With two outs in the first, Jenna Calder hit a bases-loaded single to drive in Malory Schattle and Kristen Oakes, who reached on back-to-back fielder’s choice plays that put Meagan Hill and CeCe Cantu out at third.
The girls added two runs in the top of the third on a home run by Oakes that plated Schattle who reached on a walk.
The Lady Leopards scored their single run in the bottom of the third when Amber Fuchs doubled and scored on a single by Beth Baker.
Salado had seven hits on the night. Oakes led the girls with two hits, a homerun and a double. She also reached on a fielder’s choice.
Also recording hits were Calder, a single for 2 RBIs, and singles by Hill, Abbie James, Lindy Martin and Cantu.
Bailey Tindell went four innings and faced 18 batters in earning the win. She struck out three, walked two and allowed four hits and an earned run.
Meagan Hill pitched for the save, facing nine batters in three innings, striking out five and allowing no runners to reach base.
Salado went through three pitchers, with Kayla Maldonado suffering the loss for her three innings in which she allowed four earned runs on five hits. She struck out one batter.
