Salado loses to #6-ranked Liberty Hill

Salado Lady Eagles took second place in the Coach Smith Memorial Tournament Dec. 3-5, losing to the #6-ranked Liberty Hill Lady Panthers in the championship game.

Sarah Kelarek, Payton Dreitz, Brianna Washington and Kerrigan Hearne were named to the All Tournament Team.

McGregor 56

Salado Lady Eagles lost to the McGregor Lady Bulldogs 48-56 in the first round of the Coach Smith Tournament Dec. 3.

Salado led 14-12 at the end of the first, but trailed 23-25 at the half.

Sarah Kelarek led the Lady Eagles with 26 points. Also scoring for the girls were Gema Vitolas, seven points, Brianna Washington and Kerrigan Hearne, five points each, Danielle McDaniel and Taylor Lowrance, two points each and Kierstan Osborn, one point.

Lady Eagles 60

Travis 12

The Lady Eagles destroyed the Travis Lady Rebels 60-12 in the second round of the tournament Dec. 3.

Kayla Manning led the Lady Eagles with 16 points, followed by Vitolas with 10 points.

Also scoring were Kelarek, eight points, Paz Perez and Lowrance, seven points each, Payton Dreitz, four points, Washington, three points, Hearne and Osborn, two points, and McDaniel, one point.

Salado Lady Eagles scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to pull away from Cameron Lady Yoe in the third round of the tournament,winning 43-38 Dec. 4.

Dreitz led the scoring for Salado with 10 points. Also scoring were Hearne, nine points, Vitolas and Washington, six points each, Osborn and Lowrance, four points each, Kelarek, three points and McDaniel, one point.

Caldwell 23

Salado outscored Caldwell 39-23 in the fourth round of the Coach Smith Tournament Dec. 4., led by 11 point effort from Vitolas and Dreitz.

Also scoring for the Lady Eagles were: Lowrance, six points, Kelarek, five points and Washington and Osborn, two points each.

With 24 points in the first quarter, Salado Lady Eagles got past the McGregor Lady Bulldogs 55-50 in the fifth round of the Coach Smith Tournament Dec. 5.

Hearne led the scoring for Salado with 14 points. Dreitz followed with 12 points.

Also scoring were Kelarek, nine points, Lowrance, six points, Osborn, five points, Washington, four points and McDaniel, two points.

Salado ran into a buzzsaw in the final game of the tournament, losing to Liberty Hill 61-8 Dec. 5.

Scoring for Salado were Hearne, three points, Dreitz and Kelarek, two points each and Washington, one point.
