Salado Lady Eagles won two of five games in the Coach Smith Memorial Tournament Dec. 5-7 to place sixth overall. Lorena Perez was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Salado Lady Eagles jumped on top of KIPP 17-3 in the first and never looked back. The girls led 28-10 at the half and 43-15 after three. Salado won the Dec. 5 game 54-20.
Abby Rembert led the girls with 18 points, She shot six-of-15 from the field and made half of her eight three-point attempts. She also grabbed two rebounds and three steals and made two deflections and an assist.
Kaia Philen followed with 9 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, eight steals and three deflections.

Salado fought San Saba to a tie in the first and second quarters, but fell apart in the second half, losing 59-40 in the first day of the Coach Smith Memorial Basketball Tournament on Dec. 5.
Salado tied San Saba at 18 in the first and 29 at the half. San Saba outscored the Lady Eagles 13-9 in the third and ran away in the fourth 17-2 for the win.
Abby Rembert led the Lady Eagles with 13 points. She had three three-pointer on 10 attempts and hit five-of-14 two-pointers. She also grabbed two rebounds and six steals as well as deflecting a shot.
Kaia Philen followed with 11 points. She was four-of-17 from the field. Philen also had four rebounds, two assists, a steal, a deflection and a block.
Amanda Cantu scored 10 points. She grabbed six rebounds and had two steals, two deflections and a block.

Salado Lady Eagles jumped out to an early lead against their counterparts from Rogers, 17-8 in the first quarter, and held on for a convincing 53-39 win on Dec. 6.
Salado led 33-19 at the half. Rogers narrowed the lead to 10 in the third, 43-33 but Salado outscored Rogers 10-6 in the fourth.
Reese Preston and Abby Rembert led Salado with 12 points each. Preston shot four-of-eight from the field, including four-of-seven three pointers. She also had three rebounds, two assists and a deflection. Rembert what three-of-12 from the field and four-of-five on free throws. She also had three rebounds and a steal.

Salado’s game against West went down to the wire as the Lady Trojans outrebounded Salado on the offensive boards to get more second shots.
West grabbed 15 offensive boards for second shots, while Salado grabbed just seven offensive rebounds. Overall, West had 32 rebounds while Salado had 28.
West made 11 of 44 two-pointers, while Salado made five of 22. West hit two of six three pointers. Salado hit four of 15 from beyond the arc.
Salado committed more turnovers than Rogers, 21-14. Rogers had eight steals while Salado had nine in the game. West committed 13 team fouls. Salado committed 10, but Salado had four technical fouls while Rogers had one.
West held a slim halftime lead of 13-12. Salado tied the game at 24-24 in the third, but West took the win with 10 points in the fourth.
Lorena Perez led Salado with 13 points. She shot six of 10 from the field. She also had nine rebounds to lead Salado, an assist, two deflections and blocked six shots.
Kaia Philen also had double figures with 10 points. She was two-of-seven from the field but perfect on the four free throws. Philen had five rebounds, three assists, two steals, three deflections and a block.

Salado Lady Eagles made about 23 percent of their shots from the field in their 31-30 loss to Snook on Dec. 7.
The teams fought back and forth through the first half with Snook holding a narrow 20-18 lead going to the lockers. Snook outscored Salado 9-3 in the third but Salado tried to come from behind in the fourth outscoring Snook 8-2.
In the fourth, Megan Manibusan and Kaia Philen hit three-pointers and Lorena Perez hit a two-pointer but it wasn’t enough to close the gap as Salado missed three other shots.
Priscilla Torczynski and Philen led the girls with 10 points each. Torczysnki hit three-of-13 from the field, including two-of-eight beyond the arc. She also had two deflection, and blocked a shot.
Philen shot three-of-12 from the field and made two-of-8 three-pointers. She had seven rebounds,, two steals, five deflections and an assist.

Prior to the tournament, the Lady Eagles swatted the Llano Lady Jackets 69-20 on Dec. 3 in a non-district home game.
Salado held Llano to a single point in the first period to lead 17-1. The Lady Eagles led 31-6 at the half and coasted to the win.
Lorena Perez led the girls with 16 points. She also had 10 rebounds, three steals, three deflection , a block and an assist.
Abby Rembert followed with 14 points, six rebounds, two steals and an assist. Katie Law scored 11 points and had three rebounds, two assist and two steals.

That is not a typo. Salado JV Red Lady Eagles beat their counterparts from Llano 55-8 on Dec. 3.
The girls allowed Llano to score 6 points in the first half and 2 in the second. Meanwhile, Salado scored 20 points in the first quarter and held a 39-6 lead at the half. Cooling their jets, they added another 16 points in the second half.
Harley Drouillard led the girls with 14 points. She hit four from beyond the arc in the game.
Kenslee Konarik followed with 11 points. Reese Witmer scored 10 points.
