Girls are 12-3 on year with Gatesville wins

Salado Lady Eagles won the Gatesville Volleyball Tournament Aug. 20 and 22, beating four teams, including two 6A squads. With the tournament wins, the girls are 12-3 on the year.

The girls dominated play on Aug. 20, defeating Dawson handily in two sets 25-11 and 25-13 and  Belton in three sets (17-25, 25-18 and 25-16).  On Aug. 22, Salado beat China Springs in two sets (25-17 and 25-20). The girls beat Killeen Ellison 25-11 and 25-15 in the Championship match.

Cheyenne Vaca led the squad with 46 kills during the tournament, followed by Tori Dekay, who had 24 kills.

Meagan Hill led the team at the service line with four aces, while Lindy Martin had two.

Defensively, Malory Schattle led the Lady Eagles with 11 blocks. Payton Dreitz had six blocks in the tournament.

Hill also had 98 assists.

Kierstan Osborn had 24 digs, followed by Kerrigan Hearne, 18 digs.
