Salado Lady Eagles won the Silver Bracket of the 2016 Wimberley TexFest volleyball tournament Aug. 12-13 among a field of 28 teams.
On Aug. 12, the Lady Eagles beat Hamshire-Fannett in two sets, 25-16 and 25-23.
Mikaela Heiner, Katie Robinson, Kerrigan Hearne and Brittney Fuller each had two aces in the match.
Natalie Fort led the squad with six digs. Robinson led the team with eight kills. Fuller had 14 assists. Mariah Valliancourt blocked three shots and Brianna Washington blocked two shots.
The girls lost in three sets to Lockhart, 25-19, 24-26 and 7-15 in the second round Aug. 12.
Victoria DeKay and Fuller each had three aces.
Heiner had 11 digs. Robinson had seven kills and DeKay had five. Fuller had 15 assists. DeKay blocked five shots whil Washington blocked two.
The Lady Eagle suffered their second loss of the tournament to Laredo in the third round on Aug. 12, losing in two sets, 18-25 and 15-25.
In that round, Fuller had two aces, Hearne, Fort and Robinson each had five digs, Robinson and DeKay both had four kills, Fuller had 10 assists and Washington and Robinson both blocked a shot.
Salado won all three rounds in the second day of the tournament Aug. 13, beating Marion, Burnet and Caddo Mills in the final.
The Lady Eagles swept Marion 25-22 and 25-18. Hearne, Heiner and Fuller all had an ace at the service line. Lindy Martin and Robinson both had nine digs. Robinson had eight kills while DeKay had four. Fuller had 13 assists. Vaillancourt blocked four shots, DeKay blocked two and Martin blocked one.
Salado beat District 19-4A foe Burnet in the next round, winning in three, 21-25, 25-20 and 16-14. Fort, Fuller and Hearne all had two aces. Robinson led the team with 10 digs, Hearne had nine and Martin had eight. Robinson had 11 kills and DeKay had six. Fuller made 20 assists. Meanwhile, Washington, Vaillancourt and Martin all had 1.5 blocks.
The Lady Eagles beat Caddo Mills in the Silver Bracket championship game, winning in three, 25-23, 23-25 and 15-7.
Heiner and Robinson both had four aces. Robinson had 14 digs while Martin had eight. Attacking the net, DeKay had 11 kills while Robinson had seven. Fuller gave 19 assists. Vaillancourt had 2.5 blocks, while Washington and DeKay each had 1.5 blocks.
The tournament brought Salado’s record to 5-2. The girls will play Killeen Ellison on the road on Aug. 16. This weekend, they play in the Gatesville Tournament.
Salado started the season with a three-set sweep of Troy in a home match on Aug. 8.
