It took two 10-minute overtime periods in a scoreless match followed by a shoot out for the Salado Lady Eagles to see their perfect soccer record fall at the hands of heated rival Liberty Hill Lady Panthers.
“The game was a tough loss and a lot to take in, but we played our hearts out,” said outside midfielder Jessica Ringstaff of the 0-1 loss on Feb. 24. “We will come out stronger than ever next game.”
Ringstaff’s words proved to be prophetic as the Lady Eagles beat Gateway Prep 1-0 in a district match Feb. 27.
Ringstaff scored the single goal in the game with an assist by forward Sara Wilkerson.
“Even with the tough conditions weather-wise,” Morgan Bird said, “we were able to work together, play our game, and come out with the win.”
The win brings the Lady Eagles’ record to 17-1 overall; 3-1 district.
They play Lampasas on the road March 6 in a district contest.
Salado Lady Eagles JV soccer team fought the 6A Harker Heights Lady Knights to a 1-1 tie on Feb. 27 in a non-district home game.
Outside midfielder Raghnild Bele scored the single goal for Salado with an assist by forward Madison Matsi. Midfielder Taylor Schoenrock and Andrea Martinex also turned in excellent games.
“As a team and as individual players, we worked hard,” Schoenrock said. “Though the cold rain was a struggle, we came out strong to get the 1-1 tie.”
The JV girls play 6A Ellison JV at home on March 10.
