Specialist Martin James Lamar
FORT HOOD, Texas – Department of Defense officials have released the name of a Soldier killed while supporting Operation New Dawn.
Specialist Martin James Lamar, 42, whose home of record is Sacramento, Calif., died Jan. 15 in Mosul, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an Iraqi soldier from the unit with which he was training shot him with small arms fire.
Lamar joined the military in September 1999 as a cavalry scout. He was assigned to 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, since May 2010.
Lamar deployed to Iraq in August 2010 and will be posthumously promoted to Sergeant.
Lamar’s awards and decorations include the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon.
