Two three-year terms on the Salado ISD Board of Trustees will be up for election on May 4. Early voting starts on April 22 and continues through April 30. Three candidates have filed for the election and will appear on the ballot: Jeff Kelley, Amy McLane and Brand Webb.
Jeff Kelley
My name is Jeff Kelley and moved into the Salado community in 1972 when I was 10 years old. I graduated from Salado HS in 1980. After graduating I started working for another plumbing company that lasted for 7 years before opening my own company – Salado Pluming in 1987.
I am married to Charla Kelley a teacher at Salado HS and have three children: Madison Rheaume, Chase Manning and Heidi Kelley. Our oldest is married and living in Ft. Worth area. Chase was a 2014 graduate of Salado HS and is currently a student at Central Texas A&M campus in Killeen. My daughter Heidi Kelley is currently a junior at Salado HS where she is involved in cheerleading, band and the One Act Play.
While living in Salado the last 47 years I have been involved in various community organizations. I was on the volunteer fire department for 10 years, a part of the Salado Family Relief organization, member of the Salado United Methodist church where I have served on the financial board and have been a school board member for a total of 12 years.
I feel as being a business owner in this town and being raised in this community I understand the history and the future needs of our school. Having been on the school board currently and previously I feel it has given the opportunity to see the inner workings of our school system. I would like to continue on the school board to see through the construction of the new school.
Amy McLane
My name is Amy McLane and I am running for SISD School Board. My family and I have lived in Salado for 13 years. My husband, Drayton, and I have three boys who attend Salado schools.
I am running for school board because I was actively involved in the bond process in May 2018 and I want to see the project to completion. Last year, I served as the co-chair for both the Long-Range Planning Committee and the Political Action Committee for the SISD Bond.
I am running for school board to ensure the plan put together by the long-range committee is completed. Our committee of 50 was comprised of parents, local business owners, school staff and various community members. We developed a building plan that we felt best used the tax money in the most efficient way and the plan needs to be accomplished.
Our district is growing and we need to accommodate each student. In addition,
I have served on the District Site-Based Planning Committee, the District Strategic Planning Committee, PTO officer, and room parent.
Prior to moving to Salado, I taught ESL in the Arlington Independent School District in Arlington, Texas.
Brand Webb
My name is Brand Webb and I am running in the 2019 election for a seat on the Salado ISD school board.
As a parent with two daughters attending SISD, I have direct interest in helping to guide the district now and into the future by making sure that all who share an interest in the district have a voice that is heard.
Salado ISD covers over 133 square miles and the actual Village of Salado represents only about three square miles of that area. However, a significant number of students in our district reside outside of Salado. Not only do I want to be a voice for those students and their families who live in the Village of Salado, but equally important, I want to ensure that those students and their families who live in the far reaches of the district have a voice on the board and have their concerns and interests represented as well.
For me, ensuring a safe educational environment for all students and employees, ensuring that our students are challenged academically, ensuring that educational funds are used to provide a maximum number of educational opportunities for our students, ensuring that teacher salaries are fair and competitive with other schools in our area, establishing that teachers have the resources they need to enable SISD to exceed state performance standards, and, finally, ensuring that we as a district are prepared to accommodate an increase in student enrollment with physical space and academically over the next few years are the most important issues we face.
I am employed by Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railway as a Sr. Special Agent for the Central Texas Area. I have held that position for eleven years. Prior, I was an Investigator with the Cooke County District Attorney’s Office. I am a graduate of Sul Ross State University Police Academy and graduate of SRSU with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s degree in Range Animal Science. Also, I am a graduate of Leadership Gainesville.
I have served in several board capacities: President of the Sul Ross State University Alumni Association, President of the Woodbine Water Supply Corporation in Cooke County, and Chair for the Callisburg Church Administrative Counsel. I currently serve on the Salado First Baptist Church Transportation Committee.
My wife Donneé, who works at Thomas Arnold Elementary, and I along with our daughters, Preslee and Kirbee, have lived in Salado for six years and are members of First Baptist Church of Salado.
