Sergeant Michael Patrick Bartley
FORT HOOD, Texas – Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier killed while supporting Operation New Dawn.
Sergeant Michael Patrick Bartley, 23, whose home of record is Barnhill, Ill., died Jan. 15 2011 in Mosul, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an Iraqi soldier from the unit with which he was training shot him with small arms fire.
Bartley joined the military in July 2007 as a cavalry scout. He was assigned to 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas, since May 2010.
Bartley deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from June 2008 to May 2009 and was on his second deployment to Iraq since August 2010.
Bartely’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Driver/Mechanic Badge.
