Michael Leo Sullivan died October 10, 2012 at his home, surrounded by family, after battling lung and brain cancer. He was born October 2, 1950 in Galveston, Texas.
A celebration of life will be conducted by Rev. Travis Franklin on 2 p.m. Oct. 20 at Salado United Methodist Church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please honor Mike with donations to Sullivan Memorial Fund, Salado United Methodist Church, 650 Royal Street, Salado, Tx 76571.
Mike grew up in Santa Fe, TX, a small town outside of Galveston. After graduation from Santa Fe High School in 1968, Mike attended Alvin Jr. College. He was employed as a welder at Union Carbide in Texas City for 10 years. He was a partner in a welding company in Buffalo, Wyoming and then began a career in the explosives industry, relocating to New Braunfels, where he met his wife of 20 years, Darlene Sullivan.
As his career in the Explosives Industry advanced, Mike and Darlene relocated to Moss Bluff, Louisiana.
The Sullivans moved to Salado in 2004 when her job transferred them back to Texas. The couple joined the Salado United Methodist Church where Mike was involved in many activities. Not only was he a part of the Methodist Men’s group, but he was also instrumental in the children’s music and missions program, M&M’s.
Recently he served on the planning committee for a Columbarium, despite his failing health.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Sullivan, daughter Kim Mathes of Houston, son Ryan Williams and wife Ginger of Dallas, brothers Jimmy Sullivan, David Sullivan and wife Becky of Santa Fe, TX.
Grandchildren are Chase Mathes, Emily Mathes, Mitch Williams and honorary grandchild, Jaala Savoy of Moss Bluff, LA. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Gerrie Welch of Lake Jackson, TX, niece Jenny Sullivan and nephews Jeremiah Sullivan, Jacob Sullivan, Jay Welch and Joel Welch.
