Funeral services for Oscar Joseph Arnold, Jr., 89, of Holland were held 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Holland. Rev. Jay Thomas and Rev. Randy Evans officiated. Burial followed at Salado Cemetery.
Arnold passed away Saturday, January 03, 2015 at a local care center.
Oscar was born July 21, 1925 in Salado to Oscar Joseph Arnold, Sr. and Annie Wood Arnold. He attended Amity School in Salado. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Holland where he served as a Deacon for 47 years, making him the longest serving Deacon in the church’s history.
He married Doris Dixon on September 4, 1948 in Llano, she preceded him in death on June 13, 2001. Oscar was a truck driver for Ralph Wilson Plastics for 22 years. He was a lifetime resident of Central Texas and was voted Man of the Year in Holland in 2001.
He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Edith Walton, Doris Hazelwood and Ruthene Warrick and a brother, James Grover Arnold.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Arnold of Holland; 6 sons, Joseph Arnold of Salado, Keith Arnold of Shawnee, Ks, Fred Arnold, Thomas Arnold, Eddie Arnold and Rex Arnold, all of Holland; 3 daughters, Judy Houston of Academy, Debbie Wilcox of Belton, and Barbara Barabas, of Holland; 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The family received visitors Jan. 5 from at First Baptist Church in Holland.
Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Belton was in charge of arrangements.
