Salado Village Voice publishers Tim and Marilyn Fleischer chosen to be Stroll Parade Grand Marshals
Salado will kick off its annual Christmas Stroll with a Main Street parade at 5 p.m. Dec. 4. The Christmas Stroll Parade will begin at the corner of Royal and Main St. and proceed north to the Salado Civic Center for hot chocolate and cookies with jolly old St. Nick.
In Salado tradition, St. Nick will be the last entry of the parade, riding atop the Salado Volunteer Fire Department fire truck.
While Santa Claus will be at the end of parade, Tim and Marilyn Fleischer will be at the front of it. They have been selected as the Grand Marshals for this year’s parade.
The Fleischers are the civilian Grand Marshals. Ft. Hood will also have a military Grand Marshal to lead the parade as well as a detachment to present the colors at the head of the parade.
The Fleischers came to Salado in 1988 with the purchase of the Salado Village Voice.
Both have been active members in the community in a variety of capacities. The two have served multiple times on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and have chaired various events for the Chamber of Commerce from the Salado Art Fair to the Texas 100 Art Show to the Salado Family Festival. Tim is sitting on the Chamber Board for the third time.
The couple was also involved in the formation of the Public Arts League of Salado, sitting in the first meeting held at the home of Vickie and Troy Kelley before the group had a name. They served on the board of Tablerock when Jackie Mills undertook its reorganization more than two decades ago. They supported the Living Room Theatre of Salado, hosting a performance in their home.
Marilyn founded the Salado Family Relief Fund, working with local churches to form a board of directors and earn non-profit status. She served on the Salado Civic Center Foundation and currently serves on the Salado Civic Foundation.
Tim served on the first board of the Salado Mentor program, helping to put in place policies for the program.
