To the Editor:
The lower front page of your November 26, 2015 edition read as follows “BOA approves Sanctuary deal” or should it have read, “The Rabbits finally swallowed the Dangling Carrot,” except one.
I have read where the new wastewater plant being built by the Sanctuary will have a capacity of 300,000 gallons a day. When the Sanctuary is completely built, it is said that they will need that 300,000 and the Village will need at least 80,000 gallons of wastewater treated. If my math is correct, the new wastewater plant will be past its capacity to treat and then what? Since the Village will own the plant and operate it, they will have to expand it or haul the excess at the taxpayer expense. Will that mean another Bond Issue?
I read the article you have printed on this subject and have read and listened to what other people have said. I don’t believe other options were discussed at the fullest or public comments were heard. What happened to the other studies made with connecting to the Regional Wastewater Plant in Belton or purchase of land and build the Village’s own plant?
There are too many unanswered questions not discussed in the Village Meetings, so the public would have a better understanding of what is going on and how it is going to affect the Village and its citizens. The Board of Aldermen thinks this is the best deal, well I guess we will find out and so much for a government being open and transparent. Remember the first Wastewater Treatment Plan “DEAL”? It is so good now that the BOA had to budget $40,000 to operate it in 2016 because only a handful of businesses are connected to pay for the operation.
Don’t get me wrong. I would like to see the Village grow so that when I shop and dine out I wouldn’t have to go out of town to do it. It just seems that the Village may not get the best end of this deal.
Sincerely,
Johnny Butler
