It’s no secret that Salado’s history in the arts is rich. Its roots run deep, deeper than many of us may even realize. A handful of legendary artists still create within and leave their mark on our Village through their art. Their work stands a proud representation of this community’s history and expressive identity.
Rising up to continue that tradition is a new wave of artists. Six galleries, each with its own unmistakeable vibe, exist within a few short steps of each other on the south end of Salado. Royal Street and the immediate area are home to Sirril Art Gallery, Bentons Jewelry, Salado Glassworks, Ro Shaw Clay Studio, The 112 Collective [comprised of Davis Art and The Migrant Framer] and Gallerie V. Each gallery offers a one of a kind presence in this art community.
“We are eager to share our perspective with those who find themselves at our doorsteps,” Gail Allard of Salado Glassworks says. “It is from a love, curiosity and respect of Salado’s artistic history that we have chosen this small Texas town as our home to produce our creative work.”
“We believe in the power of art to motivate collective efforts within the community for the benefit, survival and progression of art,” he added. “We trust this belief will enhance culture and the growth of Salado as a whole.”
For this reason, the artists, have come together to form RAW – the Royal Street Art Walk.
On the fourth Friday of each month beginning in April, Royal Street will come to life from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for an engaging gallery experience that is focused on highlighting the quality, edge and diversity of artistic talents. The intent of this reoccurring event is to bring awareness and growth to Salado’s emerging Royal Street Art District.
Each month, the galleries will offer a new experience.
