Salado Eagles scored two runs in the eighth inning to outlast the Leander Lions in the first round of the Leander ISD Tournament on March 3.
With one out in the eighth, Marin walked and went to second on a grounder to third by Peyton Kyburz. He advanced on an error that put Phillip Ellis on first. Eliis stole second. Max Marin scored on a wild pitch and Ellis scored on an error.
The Eagles ended the game with a runners on first and second when Cody Wolf, Drew Dobbins and Preston Payne turned a double play.
Salado took the early lead with two runs in the first. Garrett Lightfoot reached on a fielder’s choice and went to second on a passed ball. He scored on an error that put Wolf on first. Wolf scored on an error that put Drew Dobbins on second base. Dobbins was left stranded on third.
Elgin scored a run in the fourth.
Salado added a run in the sixth. With one out, Maedgen singled and went to second on a walk to Ryane Oakes. An error loaded the bases and a single by Payne scored the runner.
With a single and a double in the seventh, Elgin tied the game at 3-3, throwing the game in extra innings.
Oakes got the win for Salado, pitching seven innings. He struck out four and allowed eight hits. Marin got the save in the eighth, giving up two hits but allowing none to score.
