Hermann salutes Broeckers for leadership work on successful bond election

Dave Hermann presented the Chairman’s Award of Excellence to Dave and Pat Broecker during the Salado Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet on Jan. 8. Hermann served as Chairman of the Chamber in 2014 and handed the gavel of leadership off to Tim Fleischer at the banquet.

“This year’s recipients moved to Salado in 2004,” Hermann said. “In 2009 they opened their business in Salado.

“They have been active in our community including her being President of the Ladies Auxiliary for three years,” he continued. “They are both Lions and they spearheaded the Salado Lions brisket bingo in early 2014.”

The Broeckers stepped out in public to support the concept of the city administrator. “As you may remember not everyone was in support of this concept,” Hermann said.

“They also led the charge on the Salado campaign for passing a sewer bond,” he added. “They had help and folks that felt the same passion but they were out front … talking to people, leading the charge, overcoming their objections, all while handling the toughest time of anyone’s life in saying goodbye to a loved one…. and all with grace and compassion.”

The Broeckers continue to serve by Dave’s filling an unexpired term on the Chamber’s board of directors term and in other civic duties.
