Salado High School Eagles football players volunteered after the morning two-a-day session to remove rocks from around the Big Bubbly Spring on Salado Creek on Aug. 4.
The rocks have been put there by people playing in the creek. They are creating an artificial dam that could be damaging to the Salado Salamander, which has been identified by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as being Threatened.

If you play in the creek, please do not dam it up.
Meanwhile, Lone Star Grading removed tons of gravel from the bed of Salado Creek at the low water crossing leading into Mill Creek. The contract work was done under approval of the Corps of Engineers. Funds were raised from the community to pay for the work to clean out the area of gravel and plants that were growing in the gravel bed.
