Salado lead is short-lived over Rockdale Tigers
Ryan Kyburz hit Jake Harvey on the fly and Harvey dashed past a shocked Rockdale Tiger safety to score a 56 yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead less than a minute into their contest Sept. 11.
It was the only time Salado would score as the visiting Tigers scored on eight of 12 possessions to win 53-7. Rockdale punted only once in the game and the three non-scoring drives ended with a fumble, on downs and a failed field goal attempt late in the game.
The Tigers had scoring drives of 78, 68, 65, 54 and 51 yards on the night as they rushed for 289 yards and passed for another 228 yards.
The Eagles had 139 yards total offense.
Kyburz threw four completions on 20 attempts for 84 yards.
Hayden Ebeling led the Eagles in rushing with 37 yards on six carries.
Rockdale’s David Franklin threw for 228 yards on 14 of 19 passing and five touchdowns.
Salado threatened to score with two minutes left in the third, driving 84 yards in 10 plays before turning the ball over on downs at the Rockdale 3 yard line.
JV Eagles
Aaron Torczynski caught three touchdown passes to lead the Salado Eagles past the Rockdale JV Tigers 21-0 on Sept. 10.
Freshmen
Salado Freshmen Eagles lost to Rockdale 36-0 on Sept. 10. Offensive player of the game was Caleb Chambless; defensive player of the game was Hunter Haas.
Salado teams face Academy this week with the varsity on the road and JV and freshmen at home.
