According to coach Earl Bragg, this is Burnet’s first year to have soccer and fielded only a JV squad. “In essence,” Bragg said, “this JV team was the Burnet varsity team.”
The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the first half of play.
The Eagles came back with two goals within the first five minutes of the second half. Sam Shearer headed the ball into the net to make the score 2-1.
Edgar Castillo walked his goal in to tie the game.
Both teams had opportunities to take the lead but James Armas put the Eagles up 3-2 on a direct kick with a rocket shot finding the back of the net.
Burnet tried desperately to even the score but Salado’s defensive line held and with only seconds remaining in the match, Feerman Vitolas collected the last shot on goal as goalkeeper and jogged off the field. Jose Olvera, Gabriel Perez and Coby Arguellerez were credited with the assists.
