Salado plays Nacogdoches tonight in Waco
Salado boys soccer team will face District 35 champion Nacogdoches in the second round of the UIL 4A playoffs after Salado beat the La Vega Pirates on their own field 1-0 March 26.
The La Vega Pirates were the third place team in District 33. Nacogdoches beat Navasota, the fourth place team in District 36 by a score of 4-0.
Chase Crenwelge kicked the single goal in the game midway through the second period. Daniel Lemus gave the assist on the goal.
Salado had multiple shots on goal in the first period, but could not convert them. La Vega had several scoring opportunities in the second half, but could get no shots past Salado’s goalie Mason Bird.
Salado placed second in District 34, going 8-2 with two losses to District champions Brownwood. Brownwood was knocked out of the playoffs 2-1 by Mexia the fourth place team in District 33.
The boys will travel to University High School in Waco tonight (March 28) at 6 p.m. for the playoff game against Nacogdoches.
Salado girls were knocked out of the playoffs by Waco University, the first place team in District 33 by a score of 5-0 March 26 in Temple. In only the second year of the soccer program, Salado girls qualified for the playoffs by placing fourth in District 34. The boys have made the playoffs both years.
