Eagles sweep Robinson Rockets
Salado soccer teams swept the Robinson Rockets in non-district matches on Jan. 18.
The boys beat the Rockets 9-1 on the road, led by Costas Loullis, who scored three goals, including two solo shots in the game. Loullis also had an assist by left midfielder Armando Castillo to score the first goal of the game.
Manuel Magadan scored two solo goals in the match. Center fielder Bran Rodriguez scored a solo goal. Alex Carmona scored two goals with assists coming from right midfield Josh Lesley and Cristian Martinez. Luke Markham also scored a goal for the Eagles. Niko Lowrance saved one shot on goal by the Rockets.
“The boys worked together very well,” Coach Michael Goos said, “and played an organized game.”
Salado Lady Eagles shut out the Lady Rockets 4-0 in a road match in Robinson Jan. 18.
Forward Katey Ewton scored the first goal for the Lady Eagles assisted by center midfielder China Saxton.
Defender Reagan Morreale scored on a penalty kick.
Danie Gantenbein and Brileigh Cole scored solo goals for the girls.
Sam Isbell had a save against the Lady Rockets.
“This warm up game was a good test of the girls’ ability to move the ball with crisp passing and thoughtful movement off the ball,” Coach Karent Ewton said. “We had many chances to score and looked organized throughout the game.”
The girls are 8-1 and kicked off district play Jan. 26 at Gateway Prep, a match played after presstime for this edition.
