Extreme endurance athletes will converge here for the Salado Ultra 520K Oct. 21-23.
The event will include a 6.2 mile open water swim in Stillhouse Hollow Lake beginning at 7 a.m. Oct. 21, followed immediately by a 93 mile bike ride around Salado and Bell County.
The second day of the Texas Ultra 520K will be a 172 mile bike ride. Well-wishers are encouraged to gather at Main and Royal between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Oct. 22 as the competitors ride through Salado. Enjoy a hand-crafted brew at Barrow Brewing Co., one of the sponsors of the event while waiting for the ultra-athletes to come through Salado.
The final day will be a 52.4 mile run… back-to-back marathons through the area.
Competitors visited Salado in the spring in a warm-up to the Ultra 520K.
Athletes started to arrive earlier this week. They will enjoy a brunch at The Terrace on Oct. 20 prior to the beginning of the event on Oct. 21. They also gathered with corporate sponsors at Barrow Brewing Co. on Oct. 20, for live music, beer and food by Hecho en Queso.
Saladoan Joni Moore has worked for a year to organize this event.
