Sandra “Joyce” Vannatta

Sandra “Joyce” Vannatta died on September 16, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born in San Antonio on October 6, 1940, to Joseph Charles Love and Lesley Francis Grover Love.  

Joyce married Ellis P. Vannatta on December 23, 1961.  She attended the Scott and White School of Nursing, graduating in 1961.  She worked as a nurse clinician at Scott and White until retirement in 2001.  Joyce was one of the first in nursing to achieve certification in Ambulatory Care Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1993.

Joyce and Ellis lived in the Temple area for many years and later moved to Salado in 1999.  She was member of the First Baptist Church of Salado.  An avid reader, Joyce also enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards, dominoes, skiing and traveling.  Joyce was a devout Christian and a dedicated prayer warrior to friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Evelyn Eaton, and Judith Taylor; and brother, JC Love Jr.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband Ellis P. Vannatta; daughters: Sandra Sue Vannatta and Sherri D’Ann Vannatta; brother, James Love; seven grandchildren: (children of Sandra Vannatta) Jeremy Castle, Elisha Castle; (children of Sherri Vannatta) Elizabeth Oviedo, Matthew Jenkins, Emilie Jenkins and Justin Jenkins; seven great grandchildren: Annalyna Castle, Jashiah Reyes, Azurina Oviedo, Aurora Oviedo, Revan Hinnawi, Raeleigh Jenkins and Rhett Walker.

A memorial service will be held at Broecker Funeral Home on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Salado.
