Services for Sarah Jane Smith, 74, of Salado were held March 16 at Salado United Methodist Church, with Rev. Travis Franklin officiating.
Sarah Jane Smith died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at a local hospital. She was born in Princeton, WV to Horace Lewis Mandeville, Sr and Dorothy Lee Vance.
She graduated from Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg, WV and from Marshall University in Huntington. She obtained her Masters Degree from Oklahoma University. She had additional studies at William and Mary University and VA Polytechnic Institute.
She married George E. Smith at the Navy Chapel in Yorktown, VA. on January 7, 1966. She enjoyed traveling, teaching and participating with her “Stranger in the Night”. He preceded her to heaven in 1998.
She was a alumni of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, Mill Creek Ladies Golf Association, Salado Chamber of Commerce Ladies Auxiliary, Retired Officers Wives’ Club, Texas Service Women’s Golf Association, and Who’s Who-Instructors of Distributive Education (Virginia), Rainbow/Eastern Star, and Red Hat Society.
Survivors include a brother, Horace L. Mandeville, Jr., Perry, Oklahoma; daughter, Robin K. Smith Roesler, San Antonio, sons Mark Alan Smith, Lewisville, TX, and Bruce Alexander Smith, Frisco, TX, and 6 grandchildren.
