Services for Scott Mathew McGahan, 57, of Salado were held May 11 at Broecker Funeral Home in Salado.
McGahan died May 7, 2013 at his home. He was born in Miami, Florida, September 11, 1955, to Mr. and Mrs. Samuel McGahan, and grew up in Vienna, Virginia.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in recreation management from Lynchburg College. He was a star baseball player at the college level, later inducted in the College Hall of Fame, and led the nation in triples. He later played for the Atlanta Braves organization.
McGahan settled and raised his family in Lynchburg where he was a Program Director at the local YMCA, a personal trainer, and owner/operator of a lawn care business. Most recently, he worked in the AAFES garden center on Fort Hood.
He and Dawn met in Key West in 2005. They married in 2009 in Warrick, N.Y., and moved to Salado in September 2011.
Scott is preceded in death by his brother, Tim, and nephew, Michael.
He is survived by his wife Dawn, his daughters, Corey Mason Gilbreath and her husband Tim Gilbreath, of Johns Island, SC, and Kiley Rebecca. He is also survived by his stepson, Troy McCall and spouse Gillian Parrish; and his stepdaughter and her husband Caitlin and Richard Luciano, and two grandchildren, Hudson and Madelyn.
He is also survived by his mother and father, Samuel and Katy of Orlando, FL, brothers, Samuel of Belcamp, MD, and Patrick of Haymarket, VA, sisters-in-laws Kathy and Carolyn, and nephews, Max, Matthew, and Nathan.
