Sgt. James Dewel Pirtle
Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died supporting Operation Enduring Freedom near the village of Nishagam, in Konar Province, Afghanistan on May 1 2009.
Sgt. James Dewel Pirtle, 21, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a Signals Intelligence Analyst, entered the military in July 2006. He was assigned to the Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division since June 2007.
The Soldier died from wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using direct fire.
Pirtle deployed to Afghanistan June 2008.
Sergeant Pirtle’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and NATO Medal.
