Salado High UIL Academic Squad won the Region IV Meet last week and will send 15 competitors to the State Contest in late May.
Salado scored 187.5 points, followed by Wimberley with 183.50. Further back in the field was Sweeny in third place with 96 points.
Salado will have three teams go to State: Number Sense, which placed first, Current Issues, which placed second and qualified as a wild card team, and Spelling and Vocabulary, which also placed second and qualified as a wild card team.
The wild card team is the second place team with the highest score among all of the second place teams in the state.
Mathematics and Speed also placed second in Region. The UIL One Act Play is the Alternate for Region IV.
Following are individual and team placements in the Regional contest.
Number Sense, first place team, state qualifier: Peyton Kyburz, fourth, Jeremy Cannon, sixth, Trey Sheppard and Morgan Bird.
Current Issues and Events, second place, state qualifier: Luke Miller, first, Austyn Giacomozzi, Sydney Jarvis, Nathaniel Sunshine.
Spelling and Vocabulary, second place, state qualifier: Kayla Manning, first, Katie Kendall, second, Keegan Menn, Orrin Kimbrough.
Calculator Applications: Morgan Bird, third, state qualifier, Tyler Armstrong, sixth.
Informative Speaking: Tim Lane, second, state qualifier.
Lincoln Douglas Debate: Tim Lane, first, state qualifier.
News Writing: Ellie Bragg, second, state qualifier.
Persuasive Speaking: TJ Niedert, fifth.
One Act Play: third, state alternate.
Hayden Ebeling, Best Actor; John Post and William Macek, All Star Cast; Bobby Cunningham, Honorable Mention; Rene Fillip, All Star Technician.
Fifty-three schools competed in the Regional Meet.
