One Act Play headed to Regional competition
Salado High School won the District UIL Academic Contest with strong performances by the One-Act Play, Calculator Applications, Number Sense, Spelling, Mathematics and Journalism teams. Salado had 403 total points, followed by Liberty Hill, 382 points and Lampasas, 341 points.
The One Act Play, which recently won the Area Round, brought in 39 points as the first place advancing play. Hayden Ebeling won Best Actor, Rayne Polkowski was Best Actress and Casey Williamson was named to the All Star Cast. John Post and Bobby Cunningham received All Star Cast honorable mention. Salado also received the Outstanding Tech Team award with Claire Manley earning the Outstanding tech member.
The Calculator Applications team earned first place, led by Morgan Bird, second place individual, Kate Kyburz, third place, Tyler Armstrong, fifth place and Kristen Crouch, sixth place.
The Number Sense Team also took first place. Trey Sheppard was first place individually, followed by Peyton Kyburz, second place, Jeremy Cannon, third and Morgan Bird, fifth.
Kayla Manning led the Spelling and Vocabulary team to first place by winning the competition. She was followed by Katie Kendall, second place and Keegan Menn, fifth place.
The Mathematics team was second, anchored by Morgan Bird, second, Nick Faulkner, fourth, Preston Kimbrough, seventh and Daniel Thoreson, eighth.
The Journalism Team was second place.
In News Writing Ellie Bragg was second and Natalie Bazar was sixth. Molley Rodeffer was first place in Feature Writing. She was second place in Editorial Writing and first place in Headline Writing, followed by Amber Schlessinger, in fifth place.
The Current Issues and Events team was second place with a fourth place finish by Luke Miller.
In other individual competitions, Jeb Sproul was fourth and Camryn Haltonm was sixth in Computer Applications, China Saxton was third in Ready Writing and Luke Miller was sixth in Social Studies.
In Speech Contests, Salado dominated in Debate, Informative Speaking, Prose Interpretation, Poetry Interpretation and Persuasive Speaking
Tim Lane was first place and top speaker in Lincoln-Douglass Debate. Hannah Wilson was second.
Lane was also first in Informative Speaking, followed by Jannah Wilson, second and Maddie Krustchinsky, fifth.
Courtney Evans was first in Prose Interpretation and Rene Fillip was fourth.
TJ Niedert was first place in Persuasive Speaking.
In Poetry Interpretation, Jacob Reeder was third and Maddie Krustchinsky was sixth.
