Eagles tie 2A record second straight year,
scoring heavy in spring events
Salado High School has won the UIL Lone Star Cup for the second year in a row! University Interscholastic League (UIL) announced the winners June 12 and Salado has repeated as Lone Star Champions.
The Lone Star Cup ranks schools on how they fare in all UIL competitions, awarding points for playoff appearances and state championships in athletic, music and academic competitions.
“Congratulations to the students, employees, parents, and community members of the Salado Independent School District for this amazing accomplishment!” Superintendent Michael Novotny said.
The Texas Lone Star Cup is the awarded to the high school in Texas with the best overall academic, athletic, and fine arts programs.
Salado High won the 2A Lone Star Cup by scoring a total of 82 points in the following activities this year:
Girls’ Basketball = 2 (qualifying for playoffs)
Girls’ Soccer = 2 (qualifying for playoffs)
Boys’ Soccer = 6 (qualifying for playoffs, district champions, winning one round of playoffs)
Boys’ Basketball = 8 (qualifying for playoffs, district champions, winning two rounds of playoffs)
Girls’ Golf = 8 (state runner up)
One Act Play = 8 (state runner up)
Boys’ Golf = 10 (state champions)
Softball = 10 (qualifying for playoffs, winning four rounds of playoffs)
Baseball = 10 (qualifying for playoffs, winnning four rounds of playoffs)
Academic UIL = 18 (district champions, regional champions, state champions)
Salado High School tied the all-time UIL Lone Star Cup record for the point total (82) for 2A high schools. We also tied this all-time point total record when we won the UIL Lone Star Cup last year.
Out of the 235 high schools in the 2A classification, below are the final standings for the top 10 schools.
