Sergeant Steven Luna Talamantez
FORT HOOD, Texas – Fort Hood officials have released the name of a Soldier who died July 10 2011 from wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with indirect fire in Maysan Province, Iraq.
Sergeant Steven Luna Talamantez, 34, whose home of record is listed as Laredo, Texas, entered active-duty service in January 2008 as an M1 armor crewman. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, since May 2008.
Talamantez deployed in support of Operation New Dawn from February 2011 to July 2011, and Operation Iraqi Freedom from December 2008 to November 2009.
Talamantez’s awards and decorations include an Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with combat service star, Global War on Terrorism Sevice Medal, Army Serice Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge with tracked and wheeled vehicle skill tabs. He will be posthumously awarded a Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart Medal.
