Stewart P Smith, age 91, formerly of Salado, passed away on August 14, 2016 in Reno, Nevada following a short illness.
A service will be held at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Florence, CO on Sept. 10. He will be buried in the family plot in Union Highland Cemetery in Florence, CO.
Smith was born to Frank and Nina Smith on December 6, 1924. He graduated from Big Springs High School in 1943 and earned a degree in Business Administration in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army 1943-46 in sthe Army’s specialized training program.
He was a vice-consul for the State Department Foreign Service stationed in Isfahan, Iran in 1949-1953.
He then entered public relations as a career, beginning in California in 1954. He joined Anderson Clayton in California in 1962 and became its Vice President of Public Relations, with an office in Houston until his retirement in 1982.
Smith was a founding member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Salado. He was also a member and former board member of the Institute for the Humanities at Salado.
He is survived by his neice Judith Mai Kroger, of Reno and his great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Francis Bernard “Bud” Smith, who died in World War II in 1945 and Eugene Smith who died in 1946, and his sister Dorothy Ann Mai, who died in 2003.
